Here at Shi-awela, you will find the 10,000 acre home of the Ball family located in the Limpopo Province of Southern Africa.  Shi-awela is our home, our business, and our piece of God’s magnificent creation. We have been blessed with such a rich portion of this great earth and have been very fortunate to be able to share it with adventurers from around the world.

Since 1965, our property has been a proclaimed private nature reserve and is exempt to host a wide variety of wildlife species. Over the years, research has taken place focusing particularly on nocturnal animals, rodents, Brown Hyena and Cape Vulture.  Shi-awela also boasts a variety of bushveldt birds and a nutritiously rich, bushveldt habitat for hundreds of African mammals.

Beginning in 1989, Shi-awela has outfitted safaris for both photographic tours and regulated hunting for the management and harvesting of wild game. The hunting season range is the winter months of April through September.

Climate and Clothing

Temperatures tend to range from 41F in the early morning to 83F during the day. Warm clothing is advisable for the early morning and lightweight walking clothes for the day. Comfortable boots are necessary. Camouflage according to season is advised. A good hat and sun block are essential.

Liability and Insurance

While every effort is made to ensure clients safety, no responsibility can be accepted for any illness, accident or loss. Clients are advised to take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance before they leave for safari. Cancellation insurance is also recommended.

Medical

We recommend clients take anti malarial precaution and Sun protection is vital.

Your accommodation may vary according to your personalized itinerary… from luxury game lodges, private mountain retreats, rustic bush camps, guest houses, to typical South African farm houses. All of which are sufficiently equipped to ensure your personal comfort.

Shi-awela Safari Lodge is located in the Limpopo Province, south of the Soutpansberg Mountain Range. It is approximately 4 hours north of Johannesburg International Airport, and one hour north of Polokwane Airport.

Shi-awela Safari Lodge is comprised of a central living area, with 4 privately appointed, en-suite, rondavels (chalets).
